New-World Techniques: CNC Machining

Cabinetry is no different than any other business in the sense that is it always changing. From clients and demographics, and to materials and finances, it seems like things always change. What we grow used to will come and go, and open the door for new things and opportunities. One such new thing that has recently made waves in the industry is the process of CNC Machining. CNC stands for “computer-numerical-control”, and in layman’s terms, refers to the process in which shapes and objects are carved out of a defined space. Greg Lizotte Designs has just recently acquired one of these machines, and utilizes it in almost every single job.

Here it is the day it arrived at our shop. Isn’t she beautiful?

The machine allows us to feed in measurements and numbers in order to create a pathway that it is able to understand. From there, it cuts out a shape from that pathway. A pathway can be drawn for cabinet doors, drawers, and it even is able to do some detail work as well. Having the CNC Machine available to do these parts of the jobs we do frees up the manpower to do installations, or check in on previous jobs, or even do some additional detailing work.

One important thing to note is that while we are always seeking to integrate new technology into our way of construction, we always stay connected to our roots as craftsmen. We believe machines will never truly replace skilled artisans, we only employ them to make our lives a little bit easier! Bottom line, cabinetry is an art form, and any artistic medium requires an artist and a visionary. So long as you, the client, have a vision, we will do all we can to bring it to fruition.
